Labour MP Paul Farrelly returned to his old school – St Mary’s RC Primary in Stanier Street, Newcastle - to hand out prizes to children during World Book Week.

Mr Farrelly paid tribute to children who had successfully completed a number of literacy challenges and congratulated the school on encouraging youngsters to develop the reading habit. He also received a Kwik Cricket set on behalf of the school, donated by Asda supermarket.
